Laurie grew up in snowy Ottawa, Ontario originally and goes back to visit relatives occasionally. While Ottawa is a lovely city, the visits there make her appreciate Victoria’s climate all the more! She completed her Bsc. And Msc. In Immunology at the University of Toronto, graduating with distinction. She then decided that she wanted to become more hands on in the health sciences and completed her Doctor of Optometry degree at the University of Waterloo, graduating with honours. During her time at the University of Toronto she sang in the Hart House Chorus and met a very nice baritone who was a Ph.D Engineering student from BC and the rest as we say, is history.
She enjoys working with her patients of all ages to optimize their vision and ocular health in the primary care setting and also enjoys the variety of working one day /week for local ophthalmologist Dr. Hamza Khan in his clinic. She lives in James Bay with her husband and her cat and they both still sing together (her and her husband, not the cat!! :) in Vox Humana Chamber Choir and she likes to run and cycle in her spare time.
