Dr. Colleen Gill grew up in Saskatchewan, and it was there in 1988 that she completed a Bachelor of Science degree in Anatomy. She then ventured across the border to Pacific University, where she received a Doctorate of Optometry in 1992. She practiced primary care optometry in Edmonton and the Lower Mainland, before relocating to Victoria to join Hillside Optometry Clinic in 1997.
Being passionate about healthy eyes, Dr. Gill enjoys practicing primary family eye care as well as surgical co-management and contact lens fitting. She further shows her passion and commitment as a member of both the Canadian and British Columbia Associations of Optometrists. She does find time away from the office however, and enjoys spending it with her family, travelling and gardening.
Originally from Delta BC, Dr. Meghan Hildebrand completed a Bachelor of Science degree at UBC. She then pursued a Doctor of Optometry at the University of Waterloo, where she graduated on the Dean’s Honour List.
Dr. Hildebrand has worked hard since graduation, gaining practical experience in the diagnosis, treatment and management of eye disease. She worked alongside both optometrists and ophthalmologists in her Ocular Disease and Therapeutics externship at Eye Associates of Pinellas in Florida. She also experienced primary eye care internships at multiple Metro Vancouver clinics.
Settling on the island has agreed with Dr. Hildebrand. She conducts every eye exam with a smile, which has led to patients sending her their friends and family.
Dr. Nicole Sehn graduated with honours from the Doctor of Optometry program at the University of Waterloo in 2017. Prior to this, she received an honorary degree in Biomedical Health Science from the University of Calgary in 2013. During her clinical training, she thoroughly enjoyed completing her Ocular Disease and Therapeutics externship at the Scarborough Eye Associates in Scarborough, Toronto. While there, Dr. Sehn diagnosed and co-managed diabetic retinopathy, glaucoma, macular degeneration, retinal tears and more, with individualized mentorship from a retinal ophthalmologist.
Dr. Sehn also had the opportunity to volunteer in an eyecare mission trip to Lima, Peru where she provided vision care services and glasses to patients with limited access to eyecare; this experience is one of her highlights as a student, and hopes to do more going forward.
Dr. Sehn believes healthy eyes allow individuals to connect with their surroundings and succeed in their endeavors. She conducts her appointments with a friendly and approachable manner, leaving you with the tools and information to keep your eyes healthy and seeing their best through all ages. Dr. Sehn looks forward to seeing you!
Horst is our crafty veteran of the team; our go to guy for the doctors. As a dedicated professional he keeps the office running ship-shape by applying his skills ranging from computer template setup to equipment installs.
Such devotion is no surprise, considering that Horst founded Hillside Optometry in 1996.
Two decades later the evenings and weekends still belong to him. Many longtime patients continue to look for his smiling face behind the desk!
